Text: Proverbs 10:25 (KJV)
“As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.”
The whirlwind commands attention. It is powerful, noisy, and destructive. When it appears, people stop, watch, and take notice. Yet for all its force and spectacle, it is temporary. It comes suddenly and disappears just as quickly.
Solomon uses this imagery to describe the wicked. Their influence may seem overwhelming. Their wealth may appear unshakable. Their power may intimidate and their success may attract admiration. But because their lives are not rooted in God, they are ultimately transient. When the storms of judgment, adversity, or eternity arrive, they pass away like a whirlwind.
The righteous, however, are different. Solomon says they are “an everlasting foundation.” Unlike the whirlwind, a foundation attracts little attention. It lies hidden beneath the surface. It receives no applause and makes no noise. Yet when the winds blow and the storms rage, everything depends on it.
This is God’s perspective on greatness. The world celebrates what is visible, impressive, and immediate. God values what is stable, enduring, and faithful. A righteous life is built upon truth, integrity, obedience, and reverence for God. Such a life may not always appear remarkable, but it remains standing when everything else collapses.
The penetrating question is not whether you are making an impact today, but whether your impact will endure tomorrow.
Many people desire the influence of a whirlwind—quick success, rapid recognition, and instant results. God desires to make His people foundations. Foundations support others. Foundations bear weight. Foundations remain long after the excitement has faded.
Beyond every whirlwind lies a moment of revelation. Beyond the applause, the titles, the possessions, and the achievements lies the ultimate question: What remains?
When the whirlwind has passed, the wicked are no more. But the righteous remain—an everlasting foundation whose influence extends far beyond a lifetime.
May our lives be measured not by how much attention we attract, but by how faithfully we stand.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to build my life upon Your truth and not upon the fleeting values of this world. Deliver me from the pursuit of temporary success and make me an enduring foundation that honours You and blesses others. When the whirlwinds of life pass, may my life remain firmly rooted in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
