“If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” — John 15:19 KJV
You cannot be chosen and be liked by everyone. You must choose one.
God chose you OUT of the world. But you keep going back to the world for approval. That is why you are torn.
- The Need To Be Liked Will Make You Betray Your Calling.
Saul was chosen. Tall. Anointed. But he loved the people’s praise more than God’s voice.
“For I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.” — 1 Samuel 15:24 KJV
He kept the sheep the people wanted, to keep the applause of the people. And he lost the kingdom.
Chosen men who need to be liked will disobey God to keep men happy.
“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” — Galatians 1:10 KJV
You cannot be a servant of Christ and a servant of opinion at the same time.
- The Fear of Man Is a Snare.
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” — Proverbs 29:25 KJV
A snare does not kill instantly. It holds you. It slowly chokes your boldness. You start editing your obedience to make it palatable. You soften the truth. You hide your consecration. You laugh at jokes you should rebuke.
You want to be chosen? Then you must accept that you will be misunderstood.
“For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” — John 12:43 KJV
That one verse has buried more destinies than sin itself.
- The Cure: Choose Your Audience of One.
Jesus knew who He was, so He did not need to be liked.
“For I do always those things that please him.” — John 8:29 KJV
When you finally settle that you live before ONE — the Father — you become free. Liked or not liked, praised or not praised, followed or forsaken, you stand.
Chosen means separated. Separated means lonely sometimes. But lonely with God is better than popular without Him.
Search your heart:
Are you editing your life to be liked? Would you still obey God if it cost you followers, friends, family approval?
Stop curating yourself for acceptance. You were not chosen to fit in. You were chosen to stand out.
Prayer:
Father, deliver me from the snare of man. Purge me from the love of praise. I have been chosen out — let me not crawl back in for validation. Let me be content to please Thee, though all men forsake me.
I would rather have Thy “Well done” than the world’s “Well liked.”
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
