“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” — James 1:4 (KJV)
We usually measure waiting by time.
God often measures it by transformation.
We ask, “How long will this take?”
God may be asking, “What is this producing in you?”
Because waiting is not necessarily wasted time. Sometimes it is God’s workshop.
Joseph received the dream long before he received the throne. David was anointed king while Saul was still occupying the palace. Abraham received a promise that took years to become visible.
The interval between promise and fulfilment was not empty.
It was formative.
There are things God may give you instantly, but there are other things you must become capable of carrying.
Joseph needed more than a dream; he needed administrative wisdom.
David needed more than anointing; he needed character.
Abraham needed more than a promise; he needed faith strong enough to trust the Promiser.
Perhaps, therefore, the delay is not always about the thing you are waiting for.
Sometimes the waiting is about you.
James says:
«“But let patience have her perfect work…”»
Patience has work to do.
Waiting exposes impatience.
Waiting confronts entitlement.
Waiting tests motives.
Waiting disciplines appetite.
Waiting reveals whether we love God—or merely His answers.
And perhaps most importantly, waiting develops capacity.
There are answers that could become burdens if they arrived before character was ready for them.
So God sometimes prepares the vessel before releasing the increase.
The dangerous question is:
“Why hasn’t God done it yet?”
The wiser question may be:
“What is God trying to complete in me before He does it?”
Do not merely survive your waiting season.
Study it.
What is it exposing?
What is it correcting?
What is it strengthening?
What must die in you?
What must grow?
Because when the answer finally comes, the greatest miracle may not be that your circumstances changed.
It may be that you did.
Prayer
Father, give me wisdom to understand my waiting season. Deliver me from impatience and from measuring Your faithfulness by my timetable. Let patience have her perfect work in me. Build the character, wisdom, faith and capacity necessary for what You have prepared. May I not merely receive what I prayed for; may I become the person who can carry it without losing You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

While you are waiting for God to change your situation, God may be using the situation to change you.
QUESTION
If God gave you today everything you are asking Him for, have you become the person required to carry it?
