Anchor Scripture — Isaiah 46:4 (KJV)
“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”
Isaiah 46:4 gives us one of Scripture’s most tender pictures of the unfailing faithfulness of God.
God does not merely promise to be with us at the beginning of the journey. He promises to remain when years have passed, circumstances have changed, strength has diminished, and yesterday’s certainties have disappeared.
“Even to your old age I am he.”
We change. God does not.
Our strength may change. Our circumstances may change. People may change. Opportunities may come and go. Seasons will certainly change. But through every transition of life, God declares:
“I am he.”
The greatest assurance of our lives is not that everything around us will remain stable. It is that God will remain faithful.
His Faithfulness Is Greater Than Our Seasons
There are seasons when God’s faithfulness is easy to recognize. Doors open. Prayers are answered. Provision comes. The path seems clear.
Then there are seasons when faithfulness wears a different face.
We wait.
We wonder.
We walk through circumstances we never anticipated.
But God’s faithfulness is not measured by the ease of our circumstances. He remains faithful even when we cannot understand what He is doing.
The same God who carried us through yesterday is already sufficient for tomorrow.
He Made You — He Will Not Abandon You
God says:
“I have made.”
Before He speaks about carrying us, He reminds us that He made us.
There is ownership in those words. There is purpose in them. There is also responsibility.
You are not trying to persuade an indifferent God to become interested in your life. The One carrying you is the One who made you.
What God creates, He cares for.
What God begins, He remains committed to.
What God calls, He sustains.
Your confidence is not simply that you are holding onto God.
Your greater confidence is that God is holding onto you.
His Faithfulness Carries What Your Strength Cannot
Then comes the beautiful promise:
“I will bear; even I will carry.”
There will be moments when your strength is sufficient for the assignment before you. But there may also be moments when the burden exceeds your strength.
God never promised that we would always feel strong.
He promised something better:
He would carry us.
When your wisdom reaches its limit, He remains faithful.
When your resources seem inadequate, He remains faithful.
When your plans are disrupted, He remains faithful.
When people disappoint you, He remains faithful.
When the future becomes uncertain, He remains faithful.
Sometimes God demonstrates His faithfulness by changing our circumstances.
At other times, He demonstrates His faithfulness by carrying us through circumstances He has not yet changed.
You Cannot Outlive His Faithfulness
Perhaps the most beautiful words in this passage are:
“Even to your old age…”
God is making a lifetime commitment.
There is no age at which His faithfulness expires.
There is no season in which He becomes tired of carrying His children.
There is no point in your journey where God says, “I brought you this far; now you are on your own.”
The hands that held you in yesterday’s uncertainty will hold you in tomorrow’s unknown.
You may grow older, but His faithfulness never grows old.
You may become weary, but He does not become weary.
You may reach the end of your resources, but you can never reach the end of His faithfulness.
Faithful Until Deliverance
God concludes:
“And will deliver you.”
He does not merely carry us without purpose. His faithfulness is moving us toward the fulfilment of His purposes.
This means the story is not over because you are presently in a difficult chapter.
Do not judge God’s faithfulness by the chapter you are presently reading.
The Author is still writing.
The God who made you says, “I will bear.”
The God who bears you says, “I will carry.”
And the God who carries you says, “I will deliver.”
That is unfailing faithfulness.
Today’s Reflection
Perhaps something in your life currently feels uncertain.
Do not allow the uncertainty of the situation to make you question the certainty of God.
Look back.
Remember the doors He opened.
Remember the dangers He brought you through.
Remember the prayers He answered.
Remember the times when you did not know what to do, yet somehow He made a way.
Your history with God contains evidence for your faith in God.
And if He has been faithful before, you can trust Him again.
The God who carried you then is still carrying you now.
Prayer
Faithful Father,
Thank You that Your faithfulness does not depend upon changing circumstances. You have been my Keeper through every season, and Your Word assures me that You will remain faithful throughout my journey.
When I cannot see the way ahead, help me to remember the ways You have already brought me through.
When my strength is insufficient, carry me.
When my heart is uncertain, reassure me.
When circumstances change, anchor me in the truth that You do not change.
I place my future, my family, my calling, my responsibilities, and everything concerning me into Your faithful hands.
You made me. You will bear me. You will carry me. You will deliver me.
May my life continually testify:
Great is Thy faithfulness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Declaration
My God is faithful.
His faithfulness is greater than my circumstances.
His faithfulness is stronger than my fears.
His faithfulness will sustain me through every season.
The God who carried me yesterday will carry me today, and the God who carries me today will be faithful tomorrow.
I will not fear the future, because my future rests in faithful hands.
I may grow older, but His faithfulness will never grow old.
He made me.
He will bear me.
He will carry me.
He will deliver me.
My God is faithful—and He will be faithful to the very end. Amen.
