When Nobody Stands in the Gap
“And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land…” — Ezekiel 22:30 (KJV)
There is a crisis more dangerous than a wicked people:
A people without priests who will stand for them before God.
The priest was not merely a preacher.
He was a bridge between God and the people—carrying the people before God and carrying God’s burden back to the people.
When the priest goes missing, the altar goes unattended.
When the altar goes unattended, the fire goes out.
When the fire goes out, the people lose spiritual direction.
God said:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” — Hosea 4:6
But behind the ignorance of the people may be the silence of the priest.
Where are the men who will pray when others are sleeping?
Who will stand when everyone else is bowing?
Who will weep when others are celebrating?
Who will tell the truth when truth becomes unpopular?
Who will stand in the gap?
The tragedy is not that the world is dark.
The tragedy is when the light-bearers go missing.
We do not merely need more voices in the pulpit.
We need priests at the altar.
We need watchmen on the walls.
We need intercessors in the secret place.
We need believers who understand that royal priesthood is not a title—it is a responsibility.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood…” — 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)
