The Pain Between The Oil and The Throne
“Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.” — 1 Samuel 16:13 KJV
David was anointed king in the field. But he did not go to the throne. He went back to the sheep.
He was anointed, but not appointed.
This is where most men die. Not because they have no oil — but because they cannot handle the gap.
- The Anointing Comes in Private, The Appointing Comes in Process.
Saul still sat on the throne when David was anointed. God had already rejected Saul, but Saul still wore the crown.
“For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” — Psalm 75:6-7 KJV
If you try to appoint yourself because you are anointed, you will become Saul. The anointing is God’s choice. The appointing is God’s timing. Never confuse the two.
- The Oil Will Take You Into a Cave Before It Takes You To a Palace.
After the oil, David did not go to the palace. He went to hold.
“David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam” — 1 Samuel 22:1 KJV
God will hide you after He anoints you. Why? To break the pride the oil could create. The cave kills the applause you thought the anointing would bring. The sheepfield teaches you to lead, the cave teaches you to bleed, and only then does God trust you with the throne.
If you are faithful with a few sheep in obscurity, God can trust you with a nation in visibility.
- If You Abort The Process, You Abort The Purpose.
“And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul” — 1 Samuel 27:1 KJV
Even anointed men get tired of waiting. David almost ran to the Philistines to end the wait. That is what many do — they force an appointment. They manipulate a door. They marry out of pressure. They start a ministry out of impatience.
An anointing without appointed time becomes a burden.
The Word for You:
Stop asking God, “When will it happen?” Start asking, “What are You forming in me while I wait?”
You are not forgotten. You are being formed.
You are anointed. But God is not in a hurry. He would rather keep you in the cave a little longer than let you mount a throne your character cannot carry.
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” — Psalm 27:14 KJV
Prayer:
Father, give me grace to stay where Thou hast put me until Thou sayest, Go. Let me not force what Thou hast formed. Keep me faithful in the field and in the cave, till my appointed time cometh. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
