God Wants the Fire to Move From Around You to Within You
“Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” — Luke 24:32 (KJV)
Moses saw a bush burning.
Jeremiah felt the Word burning in his bones.
The disciples on the road to Emmaus felt their hearts burning within them.
There is a progression here.
The fire moves from spectacle to substance.
At the burning bush, Moses saw something outside himself:
«“…the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”
— Exodus 3:2 (KJV)»
It arrested his attention.
But God never intended Moses merely to become a spectator of supernatural fire.
The encounter had to become assignment.
The man who saw the fire eventually had to carry the fire’s message into Egypt.
This is one of the great tests of spiritual encounter:
What did the encounter produce after the experience ended?
We can become fascinated with manifestations.
Powerful meetings.
Prophetic moments.
Unusual experiences.
Atmospheres that move us deeply.
But God does not merely want fire around us.
He wants fire within us.
Jeremiah reached that place:
«“…his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones…”
— Jeremiah 20:9 (KJV)»
Now the fire was no longer in a bush.
It was in a man.
And by Luke 24, the fire had moved even deeper:
«“Did not our heart burn within us… while he opened to us the scriptures?”»
Notice what caused their hearts to burn.
Christ opened the Scriptures.
Not entertainment.
Not spectacle.
Not emotional manipulation.
Revelation.
This is mature fire.
When truth becomes so alive that it changes the temperature of the heart.
There is a difference between being impressed by the Word and being ignited by it.
You can admire a sermon and remain unchanged.
You can underline a verse and never obey it.
You can shout over revelation without surrendering to its demand.
But when the Word truly catches fire within you, it begins rearranging your priorities.
Conviction deepens.
Appetites change.
Compromise becomes uncomfortable.
Prayer becomes necessary.
Obedience becomes urgent.
Christ becomes increasingly desirable.
The evidence of fire is not merely emotion during encounter; it is transformation after encounter.
The Emmaus disciples demonstrate this beautifully.
Before Jesus opened the Scriptures, they were walking away from Jerusalem.
After their hearts burned, Scripture says:
«“And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem…”
— Luke 24:33 (KJV)»
The burning changed their direction.
That is important.
If the fire never changes your direction, what exactly burned?
True revelation produces movement.
Moses turned aside.
Jeremiah could not remain silent.
The Emmaus disciples turned around.
Every genuine fire demanded a response.
Perhaps this is the progression God desires in us:
A fire that gets your attention.
A Word that enters your bones.
A revelation that burns in your heart.
An encounter that changes your direction.
Do not spend your life travelling from one burning bush to another looking for another spectacular experience.
Eventually, you must become the person carrying the flame.
PRAYER
Father, take me beyond merely witnessing spiritual fire. Let Your Word burn deeply within my heart. Open the Scriptures to me until revelation becomes conviction, conviction becomes obedience, and obedience changes my direction. Deliver me from seeking encounters that leave me unchanged. May the fire of Your presence move from around me to within me, until my life carries the evidence that I have walked with Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The highest purpose of a burning bush is not that you keep staring at the fire, but that eventually the fire begins burning in you.
