“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” — Jude 3 (KJV)
In a world obsessed with acquiring possessions, God calls His children to evaluate what their true treasures are. Many spend their lives pursuing wealth, status, fashion, and material comforts, yet neglect the priceless spiritual possessions that God has entrusted to them.
The first possession to protect is the peace of God. Philippians 4:7 declares, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This peace cannot be purchased with money, inherited from family, or obtained through worldly success. It is a divine gift that guards the believer’s heart in the midst of life’s storms. Do not allow anxiety, bitterness, or worldly distractions to rob you of this precious treasure.
The second possession is the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. God’s love sustains us, motivates our obedience, and enables us to love others. The believer must remain rooted in this love and refuse to allow hatred, unforgiveness, or worldly influences to harden the heart.
The third possession is the faith once delivered unto the saints. Jude exhorts believers to earnestly contend for this faith. In an age of compromise, false doctrines, and shifting values, Christians must hold firmly to the truth of God’s Word. Faith is not something to be traded for convenience, popularity, or worldly gain. Guard it diligently, nurture it daily, and stand boldly for it.
In contrast, consider the things that many people treasure most. The fashions of this world continually change. What is celebrated today may be discarded tomorrow. The world passes away with all its lusts and attractions. Likewise, silver and gold, though valuable in human eyes, are temporary. Economic systems rise and fall, currencies fluctuate, and earthly wealth can disappear in a moment. What men call riches today may lose much of its worth tomorrow.
The wise believer therefore evaluates every possession through the lens of eternity. The peace of God, the love of God, and the faith once delivered to the saints are treasures that neither thieves can steal nor time can destroy. These are the possessions of eternal value.
Let us therefore guard our hearts, protect our faith, cherish God’s love, and preserve His peace. While the world’s treasures fade, God’s treasures endure forever.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to value what You value. Teach me to guard the peace that passes all understanding, to abide in Your love, and to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered unto the saints. Deliver me from becoming attached to the fading fashions and temporary riches of this world. Fix my heart upon eternal treasures and help me to walk faithfully with You all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
